A wallet does not simply “store coins” in the way a physical wallet stores cash. It helps you manage the keys that authorize movement on a digital network. The central security question is therefore not where an app is installed, but who controls the recovery information.
Private key, public address, recovery phrase
- A public address can receive funds and may be shared when necessary.
- A private key authorizes transactions and must remain secret.
- A recovery phrase can recreate access and must never be typed into a website, sent by message or shown to support staff.
Security habits that matter
Write recovery information offline, keep it private, verify wallet software from official sources and use small test transactions when learning. No legitimate helper needs your recovery phrase. Urgency, secrecy and requests for remote access are warning signs.
