How to Compare Sources, Claims and Conflicts of Interest

Good research does not mean trusting one perfect source. It means comparing claims, checking incentives and looking for the original evidence behind a statement.

A simple method

  • Identify the exact claim.
  • Find the original source, not only a repost or screenshot.
  • Check the date, context and missing limitations.
  • Ask who benefits if the audience accepts the claim.
  • Compare with credible sources that disagree.

Conflict of interest matters

Being paid, holding an asset, earning a referral fee or promoting a personal product does not automatically make information false. It does mean the relationship should be visible so the reader can judge it properly.
