How to Read a Crypto Project Without Falling for Hype

A project should be read as a set of claims that can be tested, not as a story to join. Start with what the project says it does, then compare that statement with code, documentation, governance, security information and independent analysis.

Questions to ask

  • What problem is being solved and for whom?
  • What evidence supports actual use?
  • Who controls key decisions and upgrades?
  • What are the incentives for founders, early holders and promoters?
  • What risks and limitations are disclosed?

Do not outsource thinking

A large community, a famous name or a rapid price move is not a substitute for evidence. Be comfortable with the answer “I do not know yet.”
